The Uttar Pradesh Police has issued strict guidelines for Holi 2025, stressing that no new traditions will be allowed and urging to take preventive action against anti-social elements. These measures are being implemented as Holi coincides with Ramzan prayers on Friday, necessitating extra caution to maintain law and order.
No new traditions allowed during Holi
The authorities have clearly stated that all festivals should be celebrated according to their traditional customs only, without introducing any new practices. The UP Police stressed:
“No new traditions should be allowed to start during festivals. It is necessary to celebrate all festivals in the traditional way.”
This directive ensures that Holi celebrations remain peaceful and no social unrest spreads that may cause problems to anyone.
Preventive measures against anti-social elements
To prevent any disturbances, police officials have been directed to identify and keep an eye on individuals who could potentially disturb the peace. Past controversies related to Holi are also being reviewed, to allow law enforcement to take preventive measures if necessary.
Social media monitoring increased
With festivals like Holi, Jumme ki Namaz and Eid approaching, the Bareilly police have increased social media monitoring to track and counter any potential threat. Inspector General of Police (IG) Rakesh Singh has directed media cell personnel to improve their digital monitoring skills, to ensure that misinformation is swiftly refuted.
To strengthen digital monitoring:
- Each district should assess the activity of digital volunteer groups to ensure they are working effectively.
- If a district lacks adequate digital volunteers, local police stations have been directed to recruit additional members.
- Senior officials will dispel misinformation through video briefings and verified media statements.
- A centralised WhatsApp group will be set up to facilitate communication between districts.
Strict security measures
Security has been beefed up in districts like Sambhal, where 16 fairs have been planned during Holi. District Magistrate (DM) Rajendra Pensia confirmed that 27 quick response teams have been formed, and several zones and sectors have been set up to ensure smooth celebrations.
Additional security measures include:
- Police officials deployed in sensitive areas have been increased.
- CCTV surveillance to keep an eye on public gatherings.
- Rapid response teams for immediate action in case of any disturbance.
BJP MLA urges Muslims to offer namaz at home
BJP MLA Karnail Singh has urged members of the Muslim community to offer namaz at home during Holi to avoid clashes. He said:
“I request my Muslim brothers, our festival (Holi) comes once a year. We respect you, you too please respect our festival and offer namaz in your homes only.”
